Reserve C Championship Round 1, Kildangan 1:08, Sarsfields 3:14

Kildangan Seniors were well beaten by Sarsfields in the opening round of the championship in Ballykelly tonight (22nd July).

Kildangan got an ideal start. thanks to a Stephen Quigley point following a Billy Stevenson pass, Sarsfields cancelled this immediately, adding another point from a free.

Ryan Moran was next on the score sheet with a point, showing good reactions to gather the rebound from a Stephen Quigley shot on goal. Sarsfields then hit a purple patch and added five points in a row, along with a goal to bring their half time tally to 1:07, two Robert Hanley points left Kildangan's score at 0:04 at the break.

Robert Hanley kept up the good work on the resumption, adding another fine point. Kildangan then struck for a goal from the boot of Eric O'Hara to bring us within two of Sarsfields, 1:05 to 1:07.

This was as good as it got for Kildangan. Sarsfields put over the next point before delivering a hammer blow in the shape of two goals in quick succession, both unstoppable shots from close range.

Kildangan kept trying and closed the game with two points from Eric O'Hara and a Robert Hanley free. Sarsfields kept the scoreboard ticking over with well taken points to finish the game with a twelve point win, 3:14 to Kildangans 1:08

Once Sarsfields clicked in the second half they were never in danger as Kildangan had no real answer to their long range points. Having said that, the scoreline flattered Sarsfields somewhat as Kildangan had a number of scoring chances in the second half, however the packed Sarsfields defence proved extremely difficult to break down.

Kildangan will be hoping to rectify matters when we play Ardclough in Round Two, next Tuesday in Moorefield, throw in 7.30 pm
