Naas Edge It Against Kildangan Nurney Seniors

Eleven a side, a full pitch, and 30 minutes a half is a very testing format and having played Naas in a challenge match two weeks previously, the ladies of Kildangan Nurney knew they had their work cut out.

From the throw-in, Naas were off to a great start with a goal, followed by a point. A few minutes later, Nurangan settled the nerves with their opening score, a very well taken point from right wing forward. There was an exchange of points and soon after the goal deficit was retrieved. It didn’t stay close for long and Naas pulled ahead almost immediately.

After twenty minutes, the pace of the game started to show. Injury breaks were taken advantage of to get the breath back and water on board. Coming to the close of the half, Kildangan Nurney had a couple of light heads desperate for a break, but with the bench not available, they battled on, eventually delighted to get to half time and a deficit of 4 points to take into the second half.

The players would only realise after the game that the second wind did kick in. Brilliant defending and fast direct attacking all the way through the second half helped close the gap to a point or two mid-way through, only for Naas to rally and pull away again. Our girls didn’t quit, and they reduced the gap back to two points. Dissappointingly, with the game there for the taking time ran out. A real hum-dinger of a match that should lift the team for the next fixture which is Tuesday, 19th away to Kilcullen in the Championship.
