Barrow Gaels v Raheens  -  Minor Football League  -  Round 1  -  9th February

Sunday the 9th of February marked the beginning of a new chapter in the development of Kildangan GAA Club. Following the recent amalgamation of Kildangan and Castlemitchell GAA Clubs at teenage level to form Barrow Gaels, our Minor team took on Raheens in the first round of the League at a blustery Castlemitchell.

Despite playing against the strong breeze, the Gaels opened brightest and had two points on the board inside the opening five minutes.  The visitors soon found their stride and dominated the rest of the half scoring 1.6 without reply. As we entered the final minutes the Gaels did manage two late points to reduce the deficit to five points, but the difference could have been much greater had Raheens made better use of their possession in front of goal.

The second half could not have been more different as the home team dominated right from the start. Michael Howard moved to centre forward and gave a man-of-the-match performance - the visitors could not cope with his power and determination as he burst through time and again to set up scores for his fellow attackers.
Darragh Gilbert was also winning everything in mid-field and the ball scarcely made its way into the oppositions attack as the Gaels racked up 1.5 without reply to go three points clear.

A rare Raheens attack yielded a point but the Gaels pushed on again with three more points before the visitors pulled one back with a late score. The final score line read 1.12 to 1.8 in favour of Barrow Gaels.

Well done to the team and mentors on a great winning start.
