Match Report, U11 League V Nurney

Nurney travelled to Kildangan on Wednesday evening for this delayed Under 11 League game.  Having won the earlier league encounter convincingly, Kildangan were confident of a win.  What we ended up with was the proverbial ‘game of two halves’.

Nurney started at a ferocious pace and were 2.1 to no score ahead within a few minutes.  Eoin O’Fearghaill, Tadhg Sheerin and Niamh Doran fired over points to bring Kildangan into the game but Nurney goaled again and hit three further points to race into a commanding lead.  Lara Gilbert, Robert McGrath and Jack Foxe then began to take control as Kildangan plugged the gaps in their defence and pushed forward.  Jack Kenna, Ricky Burke, Hannah White and Stacey Bond were putting in some very hard work which resulted in points from Niamh Doran, Daniel Gilbert and DJ O’Toole.  The half time whistle sounded with Nurney leading 3.4 to 0.6.

The second half could not have been any different from the first!  DJ O’Toole was a constant thorn in the Nurney defence and scored 2.1 in the opening minutes.  Rory Kenna and Aoibheann Scully were outstanding in the Kildangan defence while Oisin Hyland and Eoin OFearghail were winning everything around the middle.  Daniel Gilbert marked his introduction with a goal and a point in quick succession while Jack Foxe and Lara Gilbert were clearing everything Nurney could throw at them.

Nurney were reeling from the constant pressure and couldn’t seem to mount an attack as the game moved into the final quarter.  Aoibheann Scully and Niamh Doran combined to set up Daniel Gilbert for his second and Kildangan’s fourth goal.  The remaining few minutes were dominated by Robert McGrath who kicked four consecutive points to build a commanding lead for the home team.  Nurney didn’t give up however and got their only score of the half with a late goal to leave the final score 4.12 to 4.4 in favour of Kildangan.
