Match Report: Kildangan v Straffan

The Kildangan Seniors got our Championship Campaign off to a perfect start with a six point win over Straffan on Monday evening in Moorefield.

The game started lively enough, both teams anxious for a decent start to the championship. Kildangan opened the scoring with a point by Shane Stafford which Straffan answered straight away with one of their own. It was nip and tuck from here on, the score of the half being a Pauric Casey goal, which finally put daylight between the teams to leave it 1:05 to Kildangan, 0:04 to Straffan at half time.

Kildangan continued the good work after the break, Brendan Abbey scoring three from play in this period. The only solace for Straffan was a penalty of a dubious nature, awarded for a foot-block, which they converted-their only score of the half. Kildangan added to their points tally with scores from Pauric Casey and Shane Stafford. In the end it was all too easy for Kildangan, running out easy winners 1:10 to Straffan's 1:04.

Our next outing promises to be a far tougher test, against an Ellistown team smarting from their relegation from Division 1. Ellistown will go into the game full of confidence, having beaten Carbury in the first round 2:14 to Carbury's 2:13. This fixture is set for Ballykelly on Monday evening at 7:00 pm.
