Match Report: Kildangan v Ellistown

Reserve C Championship - Round 2 - 15/8/11
Kildangan 4-12 Ellistown 1-5

Kildangan turned in a blistering second half display in rain soaked Ballykelly on Monday last to progress to the quarter finals of the Championship. Despite having plenty of the early play, Kildangan found it hard to come to terms with the greasey conditions and it was Ellistown who got off the mark first with an early point. Alan Courtney equalised soon after for Kildangan but it was Ellistown who pulled clear by 0-3 to 0-1 midway through the fist half. Robbie Murray and Shane Stafford 0-2 edged Kildangan back into a slender lead at half time.

Whatever was said at halftime by the Kildangan management certainly had the desired effect as they tackled and harried their opponents with much higher intensity after the restart and it wasn’t long before Brendan Abbey set the ball rolling for Kildangan with an early point. Few could have predicted what was to follow in the next 10mins as Tom Moran rolled back the years with a hat-trick of goals in a purple patch for Kildangan which were added to with points from Stafford and Courtney. Ellistown got in for a goal shortly after but Kildangan continued to press home their advantage with points from Padraig Casey and the pick of the bunch from Richard Morgan out on the left after good work by John Miller and Stafford. The seal was put on a deserved win when a flick by Alan Mahon was bundled home by Stafford for Kildangan's fourth goal.

For Kildangan it was a real 20 man effort but special praise must go to Tom Moran along with Billy Stevenson, Padraig Casey, Richard Morgan and Tom Devereux. For Ellistown, Eoin Hipwell, Ken Johnston and Phil Noones were to the fore.
