Cú Chulainn Gaels v Eadestown        21-8-2011

The Gaels had a great win against Eadestown in Athgarvan on Sunday morning winning on the remarkable scoreline of 8.3 to 7.3.

The home team opened well and seemed to be playing the better football with some well worked passing moves as they moved up the field. Mid way through the half they were rocked by two goals in quick succession as Eadestown took control and looked like they were going to run away with the game.  Some fine saves by goalkeeper Daniel Cawley combined with good defending by Callum Bolger, Jordan Kaye and Luke Barry kept the Gaels in the game as half time approached.  Ryan Moran was denied a blatant penalty but held his composure moments later to set up Robert Hanley for a vital late goal to leave it 4.2 to 2.3 in favour of Eadestown at the break.

As the second half resumed the goals began to flow. Eadestown struck first before the Gaels replied with two of their own. Eadestown rattled the net again to stretch their lead but with Josh Clinton starting to assert himself at centre back and Cormac O’Mahoney dominating midfield, the Gaels seemed to stop the rot.  Two more Gaels goals followed as the gap was down to just a point. The score of the game came with ten minutes left when a long ball from Cormac O’Mahoney found Robert McGrath who passed to Ryan Moran who put the ball high into the top corner of the net to put the Gaels in front.

Late scores were swapped before the final whistle sounded to signal a hard earned win for the Gaels.
