As the sun went down in Kildangan on Wednesday evening the stars came out. They weren’t to be found in the sky, however, but on the field in the form of our Under 12 football team!

Robertstown had made the journey south for this third round league game with high hopes of a win.  The visiting side were dealt a blow in the first minute, however, when Kildangan midfielder Stephen Keogh cut right through the defence for an early goal.  Shortly afterwards, Ricky Burke had a shot half blocked and in the ensuing goalmouth scramble Hannah White finished to the net.  This was followed by a fine individual goal from Lauren Kelly to leave Kildangan 3.1 up after just ten minutes.

Robertstown recovered well and replied with a goal and a point despite the best efforts of Joey O’Sullivan and Jack Foxe who were defending gallantly.  Lauren Kelly put over a point for Kildangan before full forward Niamh Doran showed her prowess with a great goal.  The half time whistle sounded with Kildangan 4.2 to 1.1 ahead.

Daniel Gilbert and Oisin Hyland marked their introduction with a point apiece while a shot from out the field from Lara Gilbert found its way to the net.  Daniel Cawley and Robert McGrath, who were now at midfield, were providing plenty of ammunition for the forwards.  Eoin O’Fearghail,  Aoibhean Scully and Michael John Prendergast were proving a real handful for the Robertstown defence as they tried hard to keep the Kildangan attack at bay.
The ‘Lara and Daniel show' continued with both scoring again before Robertstown, to their credit, replied with a goal and four points in a short space of time.  The final goal of the game came from a man more used to keeping goals out!  Robert McGrath won a ball in the corner and crossed for Daniel Cawley who punched to the net to leave the final score 7:06 to 2:05 in favour of Kildangan.
