Kildangan Under 8s Blitz

The under 8 series of games is in full swing at the moment and last Saturday it was Kildangans turn to host. Five teams played in the blitz, Kildangan, Rheban, Nurney, Grange and Ballykelly. Conscious of the need to finish early on account of Kildare taking on Derry later in the day, the teams agreed to play a shortened competition of two games each. Kildangan took on Rheban in the first game, and although Kildangan were short of a number of regulars some of the younger team members stepped up to the mark and  played with great determination to secure a well deserved draw.

The second game of the day was against near neighbours Ballykelly. The lads (and lassie) put in a sterling performance against Ballykelly. Playing fast, one touch football the team ran at the Ballykelly defence in waves and but for an ace performance by the Ballykelly keeper, Kildangan would have been out of sight by half time.
It was energy sapping stuff, and it took its toll as Kildangan started to tire in the second half. Sensing that a win was on the cards Ballykelly upped the ante, however the Kildangan backline held firm to secure a one point win, a creditable performance in the blistering heat.

Well done to all the teams for a very sporting and well attended Blitz.
