Kildangan Seniors Exit Championship

When Kildangan Seniors played Sarsfields a couple of weeks ago in the group stage of the championship, Sarsfields won by three points.  On the day we felt we did not give a good account of ourselves and that if we met them again there was a good chance of reversing the result.

However, on Sunday evening when we travelled to Nurney for the semi-final  there was no debating who the better team was, as Kildangan played second fiddle to a more speedier and slicker Sarsfields side. Sarsfields had improved beyond all recognition on the outfit that we ran so close in the previous encounter. Kildangan offered very little to the game and as a result we exit the championship, very tamely it must be said, on a score-line of Sarsfields 5:13 to Kildangan's 2:04.

While eighteen points may have been the difference on the scoreboard, Kildangan had our chances, especially in the second half. However, for the most part Sarsfields were the hungrier side and the movement and speed of play shown by them was simply too much for us. They battled for every ball and put us under pressure for possession in all sectors of the field. The result looked a forgone conclusion from the half way point, the Sarsfields dominance reflected in a scoreline of 4:06 to 1:02. Kildangan got to grips with the game for a period at the start of the second half, adding a goal and two points without reply to take the score to 4:06 to 2:04. However that was as good as it got for Kildangan and from half way through the second half to the end there was only one team in it

With the Championship season ending at the semi-final stage all that remains is to thank the manager, selectors, physios, players and supporters for everything in 2012.
