Kildangan Nurney U16s Ease Past Ellistown

The game was sure to be exciting with the previous encounter won by one point 6-8 to 6-7 in favor of the away team, Kildangan-Nurney. The home team had the minimum number of players allowed (eleven) so there would be no rest for anyone. Weather was to be changeable and from the coin toss the home team took the benefit of a slight breeze.

As with every game so far this season there was a score straight from the throw in. This one went to the home side and they never looked back. Kildangan Nurney were working up a surprising but well earned lead. After 15 minutes the rain made a predictable appearance reminding us its still an Irish summers evening.

With the gap maintained it was 3-6 to 2-3 at the break. There were 11 red faces in the KN huddle, all well out of breath and in need of water, but all smiling. It was probably the best 30 minutes of football they have played so far this year.

The second half was more even and really exciting football from end to end. At the final whistle the lead was extended by one further point, a win for Kildangan/Nurney 6-10 to 6-3. Kildangan Nurney walking off to warm applause in recognition of the effort and outcome.

Every player gave 100% for the full sixty minutes, but a special player of the game mention is well deserved for Niamh Fitzgerald. Niamh had a magnificent match in goal for the home team. Fine saves, clever kick outs and great pressure relieving runs up-field with the ball made all the difference tonight.

That's three wins from four games, which is a fantastic return. Our next game is at home to Ballymore on Thursday at 7.30pm in More O'Ferrall Park, Kildangan.
