Cúchulainn Gaels 3-11 Rathangan 3-08

The Gaels travelled to Rathangan on the June Bank holiday and knew they were facing a big challenge as they, along with Kilcock and Rathangan shared the top of the table in a three way tie. The Gaels got off to a great start with a goal from Dara Gilbert and a point from Robert Hanley, but that was quickly cancelled out as Rathangan soon hit the net and followed up with some well worked scores.

The Gaels were struggling in most positions especially up front and found themselves trailing by 9 points at half time as Rathangan rattled off 3-7 in the first half to the Gaels 1-4.

Not for the first time have the Gaels found themselves in this position, and they knew that they had to up their performance if they were to get something out of the game.  Scores were hard to come by as Rathangan defended in droves and it took the Gaels time to find their shooting boots. Once Ryan Moran and Dara Gilbert found the net the scores flowed and the Gaels started to play to their potential and kicked 7 unanswered points with Rathangan having the final say from a free. This was a great team performance as despite trailing badly at half time they never gave up and recorded a well deserved win having restricted Rathangan to a single point in the 2nd half.

Special mention must go to Josh Clinton and Conor Mullholland who were both outstanding in defense.

Unbeaten in four league games and guaranteed a place in the semi final Cúchulainn Gaels have one more game at home in Kildangan on Sunday 12th June against table toppers  Kilcock.
