Clubs participating in the GAA Social Initiative can now avail of a free night at the dogs thanks to a new partnership launched with the Irish Greyhound Board this week.

Approximately 200 clubs have signed up to participate in the GAA Social Initiative through which they offer activities and outings designed specifically to cater for older members of their communities.  Now, thanks to the IGB, a free night out at their local dog track can be added to that list.

GAA President Liam Ó Néill and Micheál O’Muircheartaigh were in Croke Park to add their support to this new partnership that aims to help clubs tackle the isolation and loneliness that can affect some older members of the communities they serve. The IGB will generously open their doors to GAA Social Initiative Club groups at their venues across the country on selected nights of the week.

The offer includes:

  • Complimentary Admission and Race Programme
  • Reserved Seating Area
  • Race named after club with a nominated member of the group to present trophy to winning connections
  • Welcome by the General Manager with some ‘live tips from the kennel’

A subsequent discussion with the IGB’s northern counterparts has opened the way for similar initiative across the six counties to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

While the GAA Social Initiative encourages clubs to reach out specifically to isolated older men it is open to all older members of the local communities they serve. Your club must be registered with Croke Park as participating in the GAA Social Initiative to avail of this offer while it is already open to existing participating clubs.

For further details on the GAA Social Initiative and this offer, or if you GAA Club would like to register, contact Emmet Haughian by email at or call 01-8652393 or visit
