Under 16 Championship RD 4  Grange 1-13 Barrow Gaels 3-11

Barrow Gaels Under 16s remain undefeated after a tremendous game of football against a very talented Grange team.

The game was played at a very high tempo and the first half was end to end stuff, both teams had a number of chances but it was Grange who showed the greater composure when it was needed to lead at half time on a scoreline of Grange 0-08, Barrow Gaels 0-05.

The first 10 minutes of second half was frantic as both teams strived to get a foothold on the game, at this stage Grange led by 10 points to 5, before the Gaels got the next two points to cut the deficit to 3.

Following a quick move out of defence, the Gaels ran at the Grange backline, this ended with a shot from Dylan Brennan coming back off the upright. Ryan Moran reacted quickest to the breaking ball and side footed the ball to the back of the net to leave the sides level.

This seemed to raise the game to another level, both teams traded scores to leave it Grange 0-12, Barrow Gaels 1-09 with 15 minutes remaining.

Then, with the Gaels threatening to take the lead a move broke down, Grange moved the ball quick to create an overlap and scored the great goal that the move deserved.

Instead of been rattled, the Gaels ventured up the field to score a fantastic team point to put two between the teams and then, from the resulting kick out a fielded catch from Daragh Moore set the Gaels on a run at the Grange defence, the ball ended up with Robert Lovett in the square. He was bundled to the ground and a  penalty followed.

Robert Hanley stepped up and showed great composure to send the keeper the wrong way.

The Gaels now lead for the first time, but Grange came storming back to score a point, leaving the teams level with 3 minutes remaining, but this Gaels team are a resilient group of players and went on another storming run at the Grange defence, the ball broke for Robert Hanley who hit a wonder strike from 25 yards to the top corner of the net

This seemed to drain the energy from Grange, another quick point from the Gaels gave them a deserved victory.

We congratulate both teams on a tremendous game of football and on the evidence shown tonight both teams could meet at the business end of the championship.

The Gaels team on the night was Daniel Cawley, Aaron Buckley, Luke Barry, Michael John Prendergast, Dylan Roycroft, Jordan Kaye, Conor Curtis, Oisin Doyle, Daragh Moore, Oisin Boylan, Robert Hanley, Robert Lovett, Ryan Moran, Dylan Brennan, James Mulhall, Brendan Chambers, Jamie Kearns, Fallou Sangare
