Our secretary Maureen Fitzgerald opened her report with reference to the increase in both juvenile and adult members in 2015; a very encouraging sign for the future of our club.
Maureen followed this up by pointing to the importance of fundraising, with such endeavours as a race night, table quiz, national draw and dog night all being very beneficial. The club also took part in the Club Kildare draw, selling over 40 tickets.
A particularly important event in 2015 was the securing of the Junior B title by our senior team. Abbey Rangers, our amalgamation with Ballykelly from under-14 to under-21 was very successful in its first year and we look forward to another good year for these teams in 2016.
Our underage chairman, John Reilly, emphasised the importance of participation from both players and mentors in his report on the juvenile section of the club. John also spoke of how our under 13 team reached the South Board Division 3 league final, while our under 12s made it to the Division 4 semi-final. The aim from here is to ensure that these young players progress further with the club through to senior level.
Club chairman, Michael Higgins, echoed similar sentiments to our secretary, and spoke about how influential the underage set-up has been since its inception in 2003, and thanked Leo Hickey, Charlie Sexton, Declan McGrath and John Miller for their foresight in starting a juvenile section.
Michael also gave credit to Maureen Fitzgerald and our treasurer Jennifer Dunne for their efforts behind the scenes, and finished his speech with a thought about club stalwart Johnny Casey, who recently passed away.
